Hi Stuart nice to hear some of the history behind the movement here in OZ, we get bits and pieces on land line and the ABC and the like. In regards to the QLD floods at the moment, an idea to throw around as the government is throwing millions at re-fencing etc is that a narrow band of siltation fence along the normal fences that the rivers have to cross may mitigate the peak intensity and help with the levee spreading idea. As you know when it floods the higher the water is from the ground the less friction it encounters so the faster it travels hence it catches up to itself in these dispersed heavy rainfall events, If we could retard 30 cm at each fence crossing after 10 fence crossings we could cut the height, intensity and slow the water for further spreading. 30 cm for some most stock may be manageable but another benefit is that graziers would have more time to move stock to safety. One of the effected land managers stated that the spreader levees they recently put in place would have been washed away and these may also act as a cost effective substitute. Many thanks
