Physicist, Anastassia Makarieva points out how accurate Heinrich Hertz was in 1885: Biotic Pump Miscellaneous: Jean-André Deluc, Heinrich Hertz, Meteorological Crosswinds, and the Drinking Bird
of course, it is. Read Gaia Theory. Read GIELIS Superformula. Nature’s Math. Come to Greece and we tell you all about IMOO (indigenous microorganisms and diatoms. Microbial algae in their glass houses that we breathe in because they photosynthesize the oxygen in our planet…
Micro biology is much more my thing. I’ve been doing some novel experiments integrating human and soil microbiology (with some empirical success) and have some emerging ideas and maybe even technology coming about (im not an enginner). I’m in very early stages working on it with @Ali Bin Shahid .
Love this! It is so exciting to imagine the planet through this new lens…
But as a non-scientist I find a lot of it hard to follow, like listening in on a conversation in a language I barely speak. Can you explain a bit of this sentence….
‘Systems don't just evolve through direct selection, they evolve toward attractors in the energy landscape.’
What is ‘the energy landscape’, and could you give me an example of an ‘attractor’?
Thanks for the lovely energy and commitment of your writing.
Theres this interesting phenomena where if you put a bunch of grandfather clocks next to each other so they are touching, the metronome will actually synchronize over time. That's an attractor. Theres this chemical phemona called BZ reaction, where if you pour a bunch of chemicals into a beaker, they will begin oscillating and doing all these complex shifts in color. Thats an attractor the system evolves to. Or you put gut microbes with immune cells, over a long geological time scale, they start evolving to an attractor where the microbes are regulating immune cells. The energy landscape is the same idea as the fitness landscape I share further in article. Each hill top is kind of an attractor the system evolves to. Its something that attracts. But after awhile a perturbation could knock it off that hill, until it evolves to a higher hill thats even more efficient. So lets say you find a good way to organize all your belongings in your garage to fit into a tight space, so its a local hill top. If you move things around a bit, it doesnt get more efficient. But if you have some big perturbation and all the belongsing get shifted around the garage. You could then look for an even more efficient way to rearrange belongings that fits into an even tighter space. Thats an even higher hill top.
Thanks - helpful. Will read again later to consider more carefully. But it feels like, speaking as a literary person, so many powerful metaphors here. Useful to poets, thinkers about human things. If only Wordsworth was still alive. He’d be so excited!
Glyphosate is a very broad spectrum antimicrobial, which impacts gut microbiome, also:

thanks for the info on glyphosate.
You are welcome. It is a broad-spectrum disruptor of life.
Josh Mitteldorf explains that we carry something like boxes of genetic trading cards we might need to use: Lamarckian Evolution, part 2
Lamarckian EPIgenetic inheritance is well-accepted. Evidence for actual GENETIC inheritance is strong. https://mitteldorf.substack.com/p/lamarckian-evolution-part-2

How past scientists understood water vapor’s role in atmospheric circulation, whether those insights were lost, and what connects the drinking bird to the biotic pump concept https://bioticregulation.substack.com/p/biotic-pump-miscellaneous-jean-andre
Yeah bacterial genetic evolution is horizontal , not just vertical. It enables evolution to happen much faster with them.
Although I can only grasp the broad concepts of this theory, I find it fascinating and full of potential...
A very interesting premise your propose. I also liked your dialogue format since it demystifies complexity.
The security guard’s skepticism mirrors readers doubts, making the microbiologist’s rebuttals feel like an aha moment.
