Great summary. Thanks so much for this.

The folks focused primarily on "thinning" to decrease wildfires really need to consider these ideas, as too much thinning is really just logging and makes things worse.

Personally I'm involved in small-scale organic agriculture, and definitely see how that can play a positive role in these issues.

Beavers help prevent the spread of wildfires by creating riparian areas which stay moist and green during wildfire season.

Look into the work of Emily Fairfax. Emily Fairfax is an ecohydrologist, beaver researcher, and assistant professor of geography at the University of Minnesota. Prior to that she was an assistant professor of Environmental Science and Resource Management at California State University Channel Islands from 2019 to 2023. She is best known for her research describing how beavers create drought and wildfire resistant patches in the landscape.

FYI - I saw this company - it’s crazy but they work in the industry of evaporation, and are trying to maximize evaporation from wastewater and other sources of water that cannot be returned to natural rivers and lakes….
